We’ve pushed out Shareaholic v1.6! This release is a major update (hence the jump from v1.4.1 to v1.6), represents months of hard work, and should make a lot of you very happy as it incorporates lots of new features that you have been requesting!

• Shareaholic 1.6 adds support for 10 new services:

  Bit.ly, Connotea, Google Gmail, Menéame, Plurk, Soup.io, Tipjoy, Twine, We heart it, Yahoo! Buzz

• Improves support for:

  Delicious, Healthranker, Truemors, Foxiewire

  

• Fixes a Google Reader render bug, plus adds support for sharing SSL pages!
• A brand new options menu, including support for toggling the context menu and community links on/off
• Adds support for songbird 1.0 and flock 2.0 users
• Lots of improvements to Delicious and Digg stats
• Lots of behind the scenes tweaks

Mozilla just gave the official add-ons website (AMO) a major upgrade! One can now customize Firefox by downloading and installing pre-packaged collections of easy to use add-ons with just one click using an install wizard. So so much easier. I really like this.

Tom Merritt at CNET was on the money when he said:

“The Firefox browser is excellent… but it is the add-ons that makes it legendary.”

By prepackaging add-ons into easy to download collections, Mozilla has just made add-ons more easily discoverable and more approachable to the less “tech-savvy”, more mainstream Firefox user, and of course potential users.

I do think that a thriving Mozilla add-ons ecosystem is Firefox’s strategic advantage in the recently re-ignited browser wars. As such, I expect Mozilla to keep pushing and doing a lot more around add-ons to keep the momentum going, and I can’t wait to see what’s next!

Earlier this week we released the latest version of Shareaholic – v1.4.1. Shareaholic now supports 21+ sharing and bookmarking services!

While this release was primarily a maintenance/bug fix release, we did add support for four often requested, and extremely popular services — which should make a lot of Shareaholics very happy :)

Other behind the scenes tweaks:

• fixed icon padding issue that some users were having while using Shareaholic with the Class Compact firefox theme
• fixed issue that few users were having where a new tab was being loaded each time Firefox started (conflict with another add-on)
• added support for Songbird 0.6
