Jay MeattleUsing Shareaholic with NoScript Firefox Add-on

by Jay Meattle at 11am, April 20th, 2009 | 16 Comments »

Some users have reported that NoScript (a very popular Firefox add-on) by default blocks certain scripts from some services like FriendFeed, Twitter, etc that need to run in order to share links with them.

For you to overcome this in the least troublesome way, we’ve compiled a whitelist for NoScript of all services that Shareaholic supports.

To use the whitelist:

1. Save the latest white list file to your desktop
2. Go to NoScript “Options”
3. Select the “Whitelist” tab -> click “Import”
4. Select the file you just saved to your desktop, and that’s it.

This should fix most issues with sharing while using NoScript.

Jay MeattleWhy we feel Bzzster is better at sending links to friends vs. del.icio.us or regular email

When we talk about Bzzster, almost everyone asks us this question — How is Bzzster better at sending links to friends vs. del.icio.us or regular email?

Here is why:

David and I are avid del.icio.us users, but we quickly discovered that del.icio.us is not a great solution for sending links to friends.

  • Believe it or not, only a small number of people we want to send links to use del.icio.us. To send links via del.icio.us, the person you want to send a link to also has to be a del.icio.us user. This is not the case with Bzzster. One can use Bzzster to recommend links to anyone who has an email address.
  • No notifications. When someone sends us a link via del.icio.us, days can go by before we realize there is a link waiting for us. Bzzster proactively notifies the person that you have shared a link with immediately.

How is Bzzster better than regular email?

We used to email via Outlook, Gmail, Entourage, etc a lot of links to people both inside and outside of work from many locations (home = 3 computers + work) and we always found ourselves searching for links we sent someone a few weeks ago. Best case — it was in our Gmail account, otherwise we had to hunt to find them across multiple computers. Bzzster saves all sent links in one place, and also makes them searchable, which makes them easier to locate later on.
