We’ve said it before: mobile is king, and more than ever, having the most relevant sharing tools available to your users across platforms is crucial to maximizing social shares. Now, you can add both WhatsApp and SMS share buttons to your site with just a simple click.  Additionally, we’ve made them both “smart” buttons, ensuring they automatically only appear on mobile!

But eh, WhatsApp Doc?

As mobile sharing explodes, so has the use of personal messaging applications as powerful sharing engines, and the wildly popular upstart messaging service WhatsApp is on the front lines.

In January 2015, WhatsApp was the most popular messaging app globally with more than 700 million active users. In April 2015, WhatsApp reached 800 million active users.

And what’s more, WhatsApp sharing is already driving real social referral traffic back to sites. Popular site Buzzfeed reported that they

“…started using a [WhatsApp] share button on mobile and found that users were tapping it more often than they were the neighboring Twitter button…”

and USA Today revealed they

“…found the same thing, with WhatsApp getting 18 percent of share-button taps (vs. 13 percent for Twitter, 34 percent for Facebook, and 35 percent for email).”

WhatsApp has proven its value as one of the most actively used, and most preferred of these platforms. Similar to WhatsApp, the use of SMS client (includes Apple’s iMessage) as a sharing service continues to grow as a powerful way for visitors to share your content across their personal networks.
